Dermal Fillers

Reduce your age and enhance your look

If you’re looking for a non-surgical cosmetic treatment that will smooth out the effects of premature ageing, dermal fillers could be the answer. Dermal filler is a substance which is injected into the skin to plump it up, make it firmer and smooth out lines and wrinkles.

There are many types of dermal fillers on the market these days but DermaVue only use synthetically produced non-animal products consisting of hyaluronic acid which is a natural chemical constituent of the skin. These products are far less likely to produce allergic reactions than old-fashioned dermal fillers such as collagen which is derived from cow hide. Newer products are available based on poly acrylamide, and a new collagen-based product which lasts up to 12 months with far fewer allergic reactions.

DermaVue can use dermal fillers to fill out lines and wrinkles around your mouth, eyes, nose and forehead. We can give your mouth a fuller and more sensuous form by enhancing the lips to produce a better definition and reduction in lipstick bleed.

Your lips can also be given a greater volume and fuller appearance.

Facial contouring – for example, cheek and chin dimples – can be achieved using dermal fillers to smooth out the hollows and alter the facial contour.

Why choose DermaVue for dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers Procedure

Dermal fillers are injected, usually without the need for local anesthetic, into lines and wrinkles to plump them out. The dermal filler then remains in the skin, where it binds water to produce a lift and give firmness to the treated area.

A dermal filler treatment usually takes around 30 minutes. For lip enhancement, a local anesthetic injection is usually given to remove any discomfort.

Typically, the results of dermal fillers can last six to nine months but this varies from one person to another. The filler is gradually broken down and absorbed by the body, so the lines, wrinkles or lips will ultimately return to their previous appearance without top up treatments.

There are now some semi-permanent or even permanent dermal fillers which produce long lasting results. Generally speaking, at DermaVue, we tend to avoid using permanent dermal fillers because some patients may develop an allergy to the product which cannot be removed. There are, however, safe products which will last between 12–18 months.

What Are Injectable Fillers?

Collagen is a protein that supports your face and gives it a youthful and supple appearance. But as you age, it breaks down, causing facial volume loss and skin to sag, wrinkles to deepen and soft tissue to wither.

We have the answer: replacing the collagen with specially designed substitutes to restore your appearance. We offer a wide range of these effective, non-invasive fillers, including the latest to hit the market:

  • Belotero
  • JuvedermVoluma
  • Radiesse
  • Restylane
  • Sculptra

How injectable fillers work

Manmade fillers are injected just below the surface of the skin, smoothing unwanted lines and wrinkles. There are areas that can particularly benefit:

  • The creases between the nose and sides of the mouth (nasolabial folds)
  • The lines that extend down from the corners of the mouth to the chin (marionette lines)
  • Lips
  • Cheeks
  • Chin
  • Temples
  • Jawline

Conditions Treated with Fillers

Learn more about the conditions that we treat with injectable fillers:

  • Acne scars: Deep acne breakouts can leave scars behind — bumps, pinpricks or small depressions with wavy edges or sharp corners.
  • Facial volume loss: Losing volume can make your face look unnecessarily aged and unbalanced, with sagging skin, thinning lips and wrinkles.

What to Expect with Our Facial Fillers

All fillers are not the same, so it’s important to see specially trained doctors like ours who can tailor your treatment and precisely inject the filler where it needs to go. Our doctors are well versed in the latest options and techniques, giving the best results.

There are a few things to keep in mind about fillers:

  • In the right hands, they can provide a natural-looking result
  • They have been used for many years, and are safe and effective
  • The procedure only takes a few minutes
  • Many fillers contain an anesthetic, so pain medication is typically unnecessary. Sometimes, though, we use topical or local anesthesia, especially when treating lips
  • There is little downtime — you can return to your normal activities right after your appointment
  • Results often appear within minutes and last for 6 months to more than a year
  • The results are typically not permanent, so you may need touchups every 3 to 12 months. In some people, though, the injections trigger collagen production, so they can go longer between treatments

We ask that you take certain steps before and after treatment.

What to do before treatment with fillers

Before treatment, we ask that you:

  • Avoid using aspirin (unless instructed by a doctor), non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (such as ibuprofen), St. John’s wort and vitamin E supplements (because of bleeding and bruising risks)
  • Notify your doctor if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, since we can prescribe medication if needed
  • What to do after treatment with fillers
  • After treatment, we ask that you:
  • Reduce swelling by using cold compresses or ice for up to 10 to 20 minutes each hour
  • Avoid intense heat (hot tubs, saunas, exercise, hot bath/shower) until redness and swelling dissipate
  • Avoid aspirin (unless instructed by a doctor), non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (such as ibuprofen), St. John’s wort and vitamin E supplements for 1 week
  • Keep in mind that you can apply makeup, but avoid rubbing the treatment area to prevent the filler from moving
  • Avoid strenuous exercise, sunlight exposure and drinking alcohol during the first week

Call our clinic if you have a question or experience increased pain, swelling, redness or drainage in the treated area.
